The Solution

Autoa supplied and commissioned an H-2800 configured robot welding cell tailored to Equiptec’s robotic welding requirements. The system was designed to handle repetitive welds on a variety of access components, improving consistency and reducing operator workload.

The cell features an OTC Daihen FD-B6L long through-arm robot mounted to a fixed base, paired with dual OTC 1PC500 headstock positioners and idler faceplates. This setup allows one side to weld while the other is unloaded and reloaded, helping to minimise downtime and keep production moving.

A Welbee M350 power source and 500A water-cooled torch deliver high-quality, repeatable welds across a range of material thicknesses. The FD-ST V2.0 offline programming software supports faster setup and easier refinement by allowing programs to be developed away from the robot. A tip cleaning station and integrated safety system were also included to support smooth daily operation.

The H-2800 provides Equiptec with a reliable and efficient robotic welding cell that integrates well into their workflow while maintaining flexibility.

The Results

The H-2800 cell has delivered strong improvements in weld consistency and process efficiency. Welds are clean and repeatable, supporting Equiptec’s product standards across a variety of access components.

The dual-positioner configuration has helped reduce downtime between welds by allowing operators to load and unload parts on one side while the robot welds on the other. This continuous cycle minimises idle time and ensures the robot stays in operation for longer periods, helping make the most of each shift. For repetitive work, this setup has proven especially effective in maintaining a smooth, uninterrupted production rhythm.

Offline programming has also made it easier to refine and adjust programs without interrupting production, streamlining setup and reducing manual input. This has supported the efficiency of Equiptec’s robotic welding process.

The IMPACT ON Equiptec’S BUSINESS

The H-2800 cell added valuable capability to Equiptec’s Napier facility. By taking on repetitive welds with consistency and precision, the system supported Equiptec’s commitment to quality and process improvement.

The integration of Equiptec’s robotic welding cell gave the team greater control over weld quality and programming, while freeing up skilled staff for more complex tasks. The cell was configured to suit Equiptec’s production needs and brought flexibility to their welding operations.
