Background
Anglo Engineering is a precision sheet metal fabricator based in Auckland, New Zealand. The company specialises in high-quality component manufacturing, supporting a range of industries with tight-tolerance parts.
In late 2018, Anglo Engineering embraced robotic welding with Autoa to streamline their welding and grinding processes. The move was driven by a clear focus on improving weld quality, reducing manual handling, and increasing efficiency across their fabrication workflows.
Project Overview
Customer: Anglo Engineering
Product: Sheetmetal Components
Country: Auckland, New Zealand
Installed: 2018
Industry: Sheetmetal Fabrication
Solution: S-6000 Robot Welding Cell
Featured Equipment: OTC FD-B6L Through-Arm, Long-Reach Robot, OTC FD19 Controller + Teach Pendant, OTC P500L Power Source + 500A Water Cooled Torch and Water Cooler, OTC 1PC1000 Positioner Headstocks, Autoa Servo Slider (6000mm Travel), Tip Cleaning Station, Integrated Safety Componentry.
The Solution
To support Anglo Engineering’s need for faster cycle times and consistent, high-quality welds across sheet metal componentry, Autoa supplied a fully configured S-6000 robotic welding cell.
The cell features an OTC Daihen FD-B6L long-reach welding robot, combined with a 500A water-cooled torch and Welbee P500L welding power source. This setup is well suited to long seam welding and helps minimise heat distortion during production. The robot is mounted to a 6-metre Autoa servo-controlled slider, allowing it to travel the full length of the components. Dual OTC Daihen 1PC1000 positioner headstocks enable controlled part rotation, improving weld access and repeatability across complex setups.
The cell also includes integrated tip cleaning, full safety componentry, and a layout designed for operator efficiency and long-term reliability.
The Results
After initially facing some challenges when learning to program Autoa’s robotic welder, Anglo Engineering is now seeing clear benefits from the investment. With support and training from Autoa, the team has continued to build confidence in using the system.
The S-6000 cell is now used to complete long seam welds up to 1.5 metres, delivering more consistent results at faster speeds. This has helped reduce cycle times and improve efficiency across selected jobs.
Ongoing support from Autoa has helped Anglo Engineering continue developing their skills and refining how robotic welding fits into their production process.
“We’ve surpassed our initial expectations. Now, we’re consistently achieving high-quality welds, even on long seams of 1.5 meters, at impressive speeds.”
The IMPACT ON Anglo Engineering’s BUSINESS
The addition of robotic welding has supported Anglo Engineering’s goal of improving productivity while maintaining high standards of quality. By reducing weld times and helping streamline part handling, the S-6000 cell has contributed to a more efficient and consistent production process.
This investment has also exceeded Anglo Engineering’s initial expectations. With hands-on experience and continued support from Autoa, the team is now well-positioned to take on more complex welds and higher volumes with confidence.
