TESTIMONIAL
The precision achieved through incorporating robotic welders in production have significantly elevated the consistency and accuracy of welds for one of Australia’s largest producers of excavation attachments, Attach2.
Based in Brisbane, Attach2 is a specialist manufacturer of excavator attachments, that prides itself on innovation and quality.
Attach2 Special Projects and Innovation Manager Anthony Watt says they started looking into robotic welders as part of a company-wide strategy towards innovation and improvement. What set Autoa robotic solutions out from the rest was their ability to provide the whole package, Anthony says.
“The biggest thing for us was, and still is, the whole package – the OTC Daihen machine, the robot, the welder and the positioner – all come from the one manufacturer and one company,” he says.
Attach2 produces fairly complex, heavy-duty attachments for excavators and during the process are welding onto partially pre-assembled pieces of very heavy machinery, meaning the temperature control of the weld and positional accuracy was crucial to avoid defects and rework.
While the transition has been “more of a journey than a destination”, the end result has been worthwhile, Anthony says.
“The robotic welders have enabled us to control the accuracy and consistency of the weld to the point where we can now mount a hitch subassembly into the jigging on our welder, push a button and produce a repeatable outcome every time,” he says.
“When challenges arose, support and training provided by Autoa has been excellent and very helpful.”
“Now we’ve ironed out the creases, the main difference we’ve noticed is the ability of the robot and manipulators to maneuver the weldment regardless of its mass which has helped improve accuracy and contributed to a substantial reduction in defects and rework.”
Anthony mentioned Attach2 is grateful for the positive impact Autoa has had on their operations and look forward to continued success.
